SYNOPSIS

Low dimensional systems (quantum dots, nanotubes and 2D materials) represent a new scientific paradigm to deliver innovative properties to materials, by controlling their shape at the nanoscale. The interest on those systems revamped in 2004 with the isolation of graphene and the successive discovery of 2D crystals. After that, a wide class of 2D materials beyond graphene (Silicene, Phosphorene, BN, MoS2), and novel low-dimensional nanostructures have attracted great interest from both research institutions and private stakeholders, making this one of the most lively and promising field for both fundamental and applied research. The aim of the workshop is to focus on the last advancements in the characterization and functionalization of low dimensional systems, from both the methodological and the applications point of view.
