Kaja Kasemets, Post-doc at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Dept. Earth and Environmental Sciences, in Dr. Paride Mantecca research group; research scientist in the Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology, National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics, Tallinn, Estonia, in Dr. Anne Kahru's research group.

Currently her studies involve the toxicity mechanism of metal-based nanoparticles to the human cells in vitro, cell-particles interactions and proteomic studies.

Field of research: prokaryotic and in vitro eukaryotic models in nanotoxicology, toxicity and mode of action of metal-based nanoparticles (NPs), bioavailability of NPs, particles-cell interactions, nano-antimicrobials.

She has also expertise in the advanced microbial fermentation techniques, microbiology, toxicity and genotoxicity assessment of oil-shale related environmental pollutants.

She is a member of Estonian Society of Toxicology and Scandinavian Society of Cell Toxicology. She has been nominated as national expert in OECD Working Party on Nanotoxicology.
