Dipartimento di Ingegneria e Architettura, Università di Trieste
Alois Bonifacio studied Chemistry at the University of Trieste, Italy, where in 2002 he earned a M.Sc. cum laude in Physical Chemistry. In 2007, after four years, he got a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, with a thesis in Applied Spectroscopy, on resonance Raman / SERS spectroscopy and spectro-electrochemistry of heme proteins. After his Ph.D., he came back to Italy as a post-Doc at the University of Trieste with a fellowship on biomedical applications of vibrational spectroscopy, and started his teaching activity as Adjunct Professor of General Chemistry and of Biomedical Optical Spectroscopy. Since December 2014 he is Assistant Professor at the University of Trieste. His current research interests lie in the application of Raman and SERS spectroscopy and imaging to biomedicine, involving different disciplines such as analytical chemistry, nanotechnology, photonics and chemometrics. He co-authored more than 40 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, gave several talks in national and international conferences and regularly acts as referee for many Journals in the field of Bioanalysis (e.g. Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, Analyst) and Nanotechnology (e.g. Journal of Nanoparticle Research). He participated in several national and international research projects, and is part of a large European network (“Raman4Clinics”) of experts in the field of medical applications of Raman spectroscopy.
