Anna COSTA
CNR-ISTEC, Faenza
Lead of Nanotechnology Lab at ISTEC. ISTEC has a strong multidisciplinary competence in the field of ceramic materials and nanomaterials. Anna Costa activity is mainly addressed to: i) synthesis and functionalization of nano and micro powders; ii) nano and micro sols formulation and wet colloidal characterization; iii) nano to macro phases process through powder encapsulation techniques (organic and inorganic matrices) and sol-gel coating (antibacterial, photocatalytic surfaces). As regards the control and design of solid surface interphase systems, the experience gained in the field of colloidal science has been fruitfully transferred to the control of nanoparticles confinement and surface chemistry. Thanks to the design/optimization of the synthesis procedures, complex core-shell type nanostructures are realized. The experience gained in the field of NMs design strategies achieved by the safety-by-design approach allows to develop expertise in: i) aggregation control strategy, especially addressed to decrease NMs release potential during production and use; ii) application of inorganic/organic coatings especially addressed to decrease health impact and exposure; iii) progress in practical and cost effective strategies for reduction of worker exposure to NMs during all stages of NMs production, use and disposal. She has coordinated FP7 collaborative project SANOWORK (Safe Nano Worker Exposure Scenarios - NMP4-SL-2012-280716), and she is WP leader of FP7 large collaborative project SUN (Sustainable Nanotechnologies – NMP4-LA-2013-604305), addressing research to the development of safety by design strategies for the risk management of nanomaterials.
