TS.VI.B.1

Present and Future Opportunities for Nanotechnology in the Space Sector – ASI Perspective

Roberto FORMARO, ASI

Nanotechnology will play an important role in future space missions. Nanosensors, dramatically improved high-performance materials, or highly efficient propulsion systems are but a few examples.

Nanotechnology has the capacity to radically change the way to performs missions in space reducing weight, improving functionality and increasing durability.

The presentation will focus on the disruptive effect of the development of nanotechnology in some areas of major impact for space systems such as Materials and Structures, Energy Generation, Storage and Distribution, Propulsion, Sensors, Electronics and Devices.
