INAIL research trends and opportunites for responsible nanotechnology development
Sergio IAVICOLI, INAIL, Dept. of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Epidemiology and Hygiene
INAIL research activities pay close attention to the emerging risks for Occupational Safety and Health with specific reference to the potential hazards introduced by new materials and scientific innovations. In this framework, a specific contribution for responsible nanotechnology development has been achieved through research projects both at national and international level. Major examples are the publication of White Book on exposure to engineered nanomaterials, the participation in the NanoReg FP7 Project, the systematic review performed for WHO nano-guidelines and the PEROSH Futures Project. At present, INAIL lines of action on nanotechnology are mainly oriented towards evidence-based policy contributions and practical tools for risk management. In this perspective, the NanoLab project aimed at the introduction of innovative tools for risk prevention and safety management of nanomaterials in R&D laboratories, will be useful to promote a safe and healthy development of nanotechnology
