Masaru Hori was born in 1958. He received the B.E. and the M. Tech degrees from Waseda University in 1981 and 1983, respectively and Ph. D. degree from Nagoya University, in 1986. In 1986, he joined Toshiba Corporation. Since 1992, he has been with Nagoya University. He became an Associate Professor in 1996, a visiting researcher, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK in 1997, and a Professor in 2004. He was a director, Plasma Nanotechnology Research Centre, in 2009, and a director of Plasma Medical Science Global Innovation Centre, Nagoya University in 2013. His current research interests include plasma processing science in materials and devices, and plasma life sciences to medicine and agriculture. He has published over 400 scientific international Journals, presented 208 invited talks at international conferences, over 1200 talks in international conferences and applied about 300 patents (170 patents granted) and 29 book chapters. He is currently Member of Science Council of Japan and is a Fellow of The Japan Society of Applied Physics. He was the recipient of Prize for Science and Technology, Japan in 2011, the 14th Plasma Material Science Award, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Japan in 2012 and other 13 awards.
