GDF has a broad background in immunology and allergology research with a specific expertise in the following areas: the in vitro study of the modulation of cell immune responses to antigens and microbial products, the development and characterization of mouse models of sensitization to inhalant and food allergens, the in vivo tolerance induction and modulation of the allergic response, the study of immunotoxic and immunomodulatory properties of nanomaterials. She coordinated or collaborated to research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Health or European Commission on the modulation of immune responses and on the regulatory testing of nanomaterials. GDF co-authored 63 original publications on peer-reviewed international journals, 32 on italian journals, and more than 125 communications to national and international Meetings. She acts as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals in the field of Immunology, Allergy, Toxicology. She operates as an Expert in several national and European commissions, including the Farmacopea Ufficiale Italiana, the Italian Advisory Committee for the Evaluation of Phase I Clinical Trials according to the DM 22/11/2011), the EMA/AIFA experts board, the EFSA database of external experts, the Working Group of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità on Nanomaterials (Immunosafety, Immunotoxicity).
