Pierluigi Bellutti received his Physical-Chemistry Laurea degree in 1984.

In 1986 he started his research activity on semiconductor technology at CSELT (Centro Studi e Laboratori per Telecomunicazioni ) in Turin (Italy) working on Ion Implantation on GaAs.

From 1987 to 1988 he was Visiting Researcher at IMEC (Belgium) working on silicon microtechnology, mainly on CCD and CMOS ones.

Since 1989 he is at FBK. His research interest was on silicon microtechnologies mainly focused on silicon oxidation, gettering processes and optical device technologies. From 2000 to 2013 has been managing the FBK MicroTechnologies Lab (MTLab), in which R&D and production activities are coexisting. Since January 2014 he is leading the Micro Nano characterization and fabrication Facility (MNF), where the Microtechnologies activities have been joined with those of Material Characterization.

In 2006, MTLab received  the ALICE-industrial award for the ALICE-LHC/CERN sensors production.
