He has a chair of Structure of Matter at University of Rome Tor Vergata. He has focused on the synthesis, structural and electronic properties of nanomaterials. He has developed the EELFS electron technique for local structural investigations. He has demonstrated that carbon nanotubes are efficient photon devices and solar cells. He has assessed in 1983 the structural properties of a layer of graphene on Ni. He is author of 270 publications. He has organized several International Conferences (NanoSEA) and workshops.
