Emerging Nanodevices for Memory and Neuromorphic applications
go back
Conventional digital electronics is showing limits in trying to follow the celebrated Moore's law. The shrinking of transistor dimensions needed to increase the overall computational power is approaching the atomic level, while the power consumption is hardly reduced. In this view, new devices and computing architectures are needed as alternatives to von Neumann paradigm. Both Europe and USA are investing unprecedented efforts in funding scientific projects for developing "brain-inspired" artificial systems (Human Brain Project - HBP; Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies - BRAIN).
The present session is focused on new promising electronic nanodevices (memristors) based on resistive switching phenomena, phase change materials and hybrid organic/inorganic nanocomposites. A particular attention will be devoted to future applications of such emerging nanodevices, such as non-volatile memories and artificial neural systems.
