Author of 80 scientific publications and >100 conference presentations. ISS principal investigator in >15 national and European projects. Expert in EFSA Working Groups dealing with nano-related issues and national scientific expert in the EFSA Network for Risk Assessment of Nanotechnologies. Served in Scientific/Organizing Committees of ca. 15 meetings, chaired 1 international and 3 national conferences.
The research group led by Dr. Cubadda has extensive expertise in NM characterization and analytical determination in complex matrixes. They focus on (i) the characterization of engineered nanomaterials (ii) analytical detection of metal/oxide nanoparticles in ‘real-world’ samples (e.g. food and biological specimens) (iii) toxicology and risk assessment of nanomaterials. Experimental work is carried out in a clean room Nanomaterial Characterization Facility. The facility features a complementary analytical platform based on state-of-the-art ICP-MS(/MS) instruments for the determination of inorganic nanoparticles along with a variety of other techniques, either present in the facility or made available by partner laboratories.
With a leading role at the national level, they organized the first (2013) and the second (2016) national conference on nanotechnologies and nanomaterials in the food sector and their safety assessment, both held under the patronage of the Ministry of Health, with contributions from experts of - among others - the EC Joint Research Centre and the EFSA Scientific Committee.
